Berkshire Hathaway Company since 2016
Berkshire Hathaway’s acquisition of Duracell gave the world’s largest manufacturer of alkaline batteries a new permanent home, fostering the ability to grow our iconic brand globally.
Duracell’s beginnings…
Berkshire Hathaway is the most recent company in a long line of corporate alliances for Duracell over the nine+ decades since our beginning. Interestingly enough, Berkshire, located in Omaha, NE shares similar Midwest roots as Duracell’s ancestral home in Indianapolis, IN. It was there in the 1920’s that one of our founding fathers, Philip Rogers Mallory, owned a tungsten filament wire manufacturing operation called the P.R. Mallory Company.
Legend has it that Samuel Rueben, an inventive scientist sought out Mallory for a piece of equipment for an experiment. What resulted was a vital partnership that would flourish for more than 50 years until Mallory’s death in 1975 and lay the groundwork for the Duracell we know today. The journey into energy innovation that would come to power the world had begun.
